How it all started ...

In 1981, Marc Van Turnhout (1959 – 1999) and his wife Gerd Nagels founded a cut flower wholesale store in Duffel near Antwerp. Some time later, they added plants and florist accessories to their product range. With this, they laid the foundation for Agora in its current form ...

For some years, Marc and Gerd work with flowers exporters and agents. In 1987 they decided to change tactics because they wanted to offer their customers a more extensive product range. They founded the purchasing company Floris Holland and started buying their own cut flowers at the different branches of the cooperative auction FloraHolland in the Netherlands.

Where are the current Agora branches?

Besides our main office, which has been moved to Kontich, branches have been established in Brussels, Deinze, Herk-de-Stad, Liège, Nivelles and Roeselare.

In France, the Agora Group now has 16 sales branches, in Angers, Biarritz, Bordeaux, Caen, Carvin, Limoges, Lyon, Metz, Mulhouse, Orléans, Paris, Rouen, Strasbourg Min, Strasbourg Sud, Toulouse and Toulouse St Jory.

Who is at the head of the company?

Since 1999, the company is lead by Gerd Nagels. In the meantime, the children Ellen, Katrin, Jolien and Nick Van Turnhout have taken up an active role in the company as well to help determine the new course for Agora.

With 24 sales branches, including one in Spain (Barcelona), several purchasing companies, our own transport company and a renewed management policy, Agora really is a unique company in this sector, a true market leader that has remained a family company nevertheless.
